Eight Sleep pod 4
The new standard in sleep.
The Eight Sleep Pod is a smart sleep system designed to maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the night by analyzing health and sleep metrics in real time. It includes a Cover, similar to a fitted sheet, with built-in sensors and a thin liquid heat transfer layer. The Hub is a small bedside unit containing the reservoir, pumps, heat sink, and control electronics.
I was responsible for the industrial design of Pod 4's Hub. The main challenge was to increase the Hub's thermal power while reducing noise. Working closely with the engineering team, we were able to double the cooling power (up to 20°F cooler than ambient room temperature), while keeping the Hub nearly silent while in use.

The Cover features two zones, allowing each partner to sleep at different temperatures in the same bed. Because contact heat transfer is more efficient than air, the Pod helps users cut down on energy bills by reducing the need for HVAC.

We worked with Eight Sleep's engineers to optimize airflow through the Hub using CFD simulations. With the redesigned thermal engine, Pod 4 reduces noise by 40% and uses up to 30% less power compared to the previous generation.
